War Time Propaganda

History is repetitive. Every nation that has ever engaged in war has published propaganda. Some of it clever. Some malicious. Some of it to boost morale. Some to stir up fear. Whatever the motivation behind it -advertising and word choice are powerful- look back to Nazi Germany. Whoever has the best ads, sells the most product:  SEX SELLS.

A huge part of winning the purity war is seizing the lingo. Whoever controls the "words" controls the battle. Think about the word choice that the pornographic industry uses: "gentleman’s club,” "adult bookstore,” "pro-choice,” "sexual revolution,” "open relationships.” All those terms convey a positive message but it is all smoke and mirrors…gift-wrap on garbage. We really know that "gentleman" do not degrade women by watching them publicly humiliate themselves. We really know that there is nothing that makes one more mature in "adult" bookstores-that's why the windows are tinted. We really know that "pro-choice" is just a nicer way of saying "I'm morally okay with mothers killing their unborn children." We really know (or at least we are beginning to see) that no true freedom came from the so called "sexual revolution." Unless by "freedom" you mean more children that are raised in fatherless homes, higher sex-crime rates, and a “plastic surgery consumed” culture that has more body-image issues than Shallow Hal. We all know that the only thing left open in an "open relationship" is a higher divorce rate and a better chance of getting an STD. The porn industry wants to re-define words. Why? Because they want people to get addicted to pornography. Why? Because they rake in the cash by doing so. The more "clicks" on a porn site, the more money they make. Or as C.S. Lewis said, "There are people who want to keep our sex instinct inflamed in order to make money out of us. Because, of course, a man with an obsession is a man who has very little sales-resistance."

We have to take back the higher ground of word control. We have to call truth, truth. Lies, lies. Smut, smut. Black, black. White, white. You will get called a bigot for doing so. The opposition will label the truth as hate speech. They want it to seem as being intolerable, mean and uneducated. We cannot negotiate with spiritual terrorist. We cannot afford to "play nice." We are at war. The father of lies (the inventor of propaganda see Genesis) wins with every "click" of a mouse looking at porn. Our heavenly Father (the source of all truth) wins with every "click" of rosary beads knocking together in prayer. What side are you contributing to? Only one side is destined to win. Choose wisely. To finish Lewis' thought from earlier, "God knows our situation; He will not judge us as if we had no difficulties to overcome. What matters is the sincerity and perseverance of our will to overcome them."

Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter...Therefore, as the tongue of fire devours the stubble, and as dry grass sinks down in the flame, so their root will be as rottenness, and their blossom go up like dust; for they have rejected the law of the Lord of hosts, and have despised the word of the Holy One of Israel. Bring Me My Weapon

We have established that pornography is harmful so let’s discuss the elephant in the room: Why the rosary? How does the rosary have anything to do with pornography? You might be a non-catholic wondering about the claims of the rosary and how they square away with your beliefs. Or you might be a practicing Catholic who is puzzled that the "weapon of choice" for this battle against the pornographic monster is simply prayer beads. St. Padre Pio called the rosary a weapon- because that's exactly what it is. A weapon. It's not just some fuzzy-feeling meditation-the very gates of hell tremble when the rosary is prayed fervently. As Catholics, we know that the prayers of the holy rosary are more than just "vain" repetitious words. Saint Padre Pio states that “The Rosary is the 'weapon' for these times.”  If we truly focus on the meditations of the mysteries, we examine deep into the heart of the Gospel of truth. Some might still be thinking “Why the rosary?” The simple answer is “Because it's powerful. Because it requires discipline.” The pornographic industry is also powerful and requires no discipline whatsoever. Rather, it promotes instant selfish pleasure. It is built on lies and the twisting of good and evil. If we are ever going to shake the very foundation of falsehood that the pornographic industry is built on, we must arm ourselves with the truth. Praying the rosary is such a powerful way in which we will begin to take down the secret walls of hidden shame in our home; praying the rosary for those nailed down by addiction to the industry is the silent prescription for this disease. 

The rosary is the Gospel on a rope. In many third-world countries, as in times before the printing press- the Bible was and is unavailable to the common man. For some, owning a personal copy of scripture was and is a luxury. How do those people know the Gospel truths? One time tested way is the regular recitation of the rosary. There are many Christians who have never personally read one page of Holy Scripture, but they know its saving message through a devotion of the rosary. They know Him personally because they pray the rosary. While reciting the rosary, we mediate on the essential moments of Christ’s life and on the life of Christ through His Mother’s perspective- a perspective that knows Christ more than we can ever hope too. The prayers of the rosary help us gain insight into the One who is the Divine Truth and Truth Giver. Not only do we arm ourselves with the truth, but we also implore the one who is the Mother of Truth to act with us. In the rosary we ask the model of purity herself, Mary, to pray for our purity. When we gain the intersession of our Blessed Mother, we gain all the power heaven can yield. St. Josemaria Escriva declares "If you say the Holy Rosary every day, with a spirit of faith and love, our Lady will make sure she leads you very far along her Son's path." We have a Goliath to take down with this industry, and just as David had five stones in his arsenal, we have five decades in ours. So grab those beads and start praying, this beast must go down!

A Call to Bear Arms

Pornography addiction is the number one addiction in the United States. Many doctors say it’s easier to break an addiction to crack cocaine than to stop using porn. Pornography is THE silent epidemic and it is killing authentic manhood among many other things! Porn has a choke-hold on our society. In the past, a person would have to go out of his way to view pornography but now, one has to go out of his way NOT to be bombarded with porn. It's everywhere!  From the checkout line, to television ads, to the radio top 40; America could be described as "pornafide".

The statistics are truly staggering. More than 70% of men from 18 to 34 visit a pornographic site in a typical week. Almost half of all families report pornography is a problem in their home and the majority of divorces cite frequent porn use as a reason for divorce. Every second roughly $3,000 is being spent on pornography. Every second 30,000 Internet users are viewing pornography. In that same second 372 Internet users are typing adult search terms into search engines. Every 39 minutes a new pornographic video is being created in the U.S.

It’s a huge business. Last year the pornographic industry made more than the major networks combined!
Now your question might be, “So why fight back with a name like ‘P.O.R.N. Militia’"??? We are called to fight! The answer is: because it's time to fight back. It's time to embrace true manhood. It's time to form a militia.

What is a militia? A secular definition would be: a body of citizens organized for military service. We are not calling for "hand to hand" physical combat but more like what St. Paul is talking about in Ephesians 6:11-12 "Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil." Or in this reference:
"There is no holiness without renunciation and spiritual battle." 2015 CCC and finally this quote: “Labour as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.” 2 Timothy 2:3.

What do we do at P.O.R.N. Militia? First and foremost we pray for healing of all those who are hurt by the "adult industry" and we:

• We form small men’s groups to provide support for men who struggle with purity.
• We reach out to women trapped in the "adult" industry.
• We educate the public on how harmful porn is, and we evangelize true sexuality.
• We encourage men to be men and embrace true masculinity—which is sainthood.
• We promote a 21 day purity "boot camp"
• We organize protests and take up legal action against in "adult industry"

The whole concept for the P.O.R.N. Militia can be summed up from the thoughts of  St. Josemaria Escriva:
"There is need for a crusade of manliness and purity to counteract and nullify the savage work of those who think man is a beast. And that crusade is your work."
